ISTE Board Member to Particpate in Capitol Hill Briefing
Ben will participate on a panel discussion moderated by Cheryl Williams, Executive Director of the Learning First Alliance (and a former ISTE President). His other co-panelist will be John Word, Principal of Kenmore Middle School in Arlington, VA. When the panel concludes, the audience will break-out into four areas with teachers teaching the members of the audience as their students. For example, Ben will engage our learners in a collaborative science experiment where they will use digital probes, scientific software, laptops and a SMART Board to be successful in his lesson. Our history teacher will use polling technology, Glogster, Prezi and a SMART Board to engage our audience in a lesson about the Presidential Election of 1860 (we thought this topic is timely for our audience!). We will also have a special education simulation classroom as well as a demonstration of formative adaptive assessments provided by Pearson.
I’m really looking forward to this event as it is a great opportunity for congressional staff to engage in digital learning. Often staff are too busy to venture away from “the hill” to visit a school, so we are bringing the classroom to them!
