On Thursday, March 29th the Red Lion Mini-THON kicked off its 2012 Mini-THON season by hosting its 6th Kick-off assembly. Students and teachers gathered in the Fitzkee Center to hear Mini-THON committee members talk of the plans for Mini-THON as well as eighth grade RLAJHS student Shaylah Saylor speak about her battle with cancer. Shaylah was diagnosed with cancer at age 11 and she told the story of how scared she was when she received her first cancer treatment. She remembers asking the nurses why they were dressed in Hazmat suits and being so surprised that the nurses couldn't come in contact with the chemo treatment but they were treating her cancer with it. Shaylah ended her speech thanking everyone for all that they do to help the Four Diamonds Fund and encouraging everyone to participate in Mini-THON. This year's Mini-THON is being donated to the Four Diamonds Fund in Shaylah's honor.
