Recently, the preschool children were treated to a visit
from members of the Leo #1 Fire Department in Red Lion. Chief Tim Mooney taught the children about
the importance of smoke detectors, how to call 911, and if there is a fire in
their house to “get out and stay out”.
He and fellow fire department member Earl Urey showed and explained the
various pieces of clothing and equipment that a firefighter must wear. The preschoolers then went outside where
firefighter Dylan Oliver explained the many pieces of equipment that are used
on the fire truck. The children were in
awe when Chief Mooney went way up high in the bucket. None of the children were interested in going
up in the bucket, but a few were treated to having their picture taken when it
was safely on the ground. All in all, it
was a day the preschoolers won’t soon forget!

Science Happenings
As we approach the half way point of the year, there is a lot of action taking place in science classes. Biology students are building DNA models as they prepare for the next round of classroom diagnostic tests. These tests help to make sure students are prepared to pass the Biology Keystone exam in May. The Keystone exam is a state requirement for all students taking Biology.
Chemistry students are learning how to do titrations. It is important for students to be able to take measurements and conduct experiments safely. In light of recent incidents, the chemistry department has refocused on safety issues.
In Physics students are conducting the Physics Bravery test. Students use a bowling ball pendulum to study conservation of energy. This is part of the curriculum leading to a study on amusement park rides that culminates with a visit to HersheyPark.
Engineering Principles I students wrapped up their semester course with a Sumo Wrestling contest. Students battled in head-to-head competitions to see who had the strongest robots. Two exciting days of competition led to student victors: Devon B., Tyler S. and Harrison S.
Here are a few pictures from the competiton:
