Last night (Oct. 20th), Coach Carol Gillmen got to put championship medals around the necks of her players. Our varsity Field Hockey team won their second straight York County Tournament Championship. In last years first ever county title game the Lions beat Dallastown in overtime. the Lions brought home the title this year with a 3 - 0 victory over Biglerville.
Leading the way for the Lions was Taylor Garifo and Erica Maciejewski each with a goal and an assist. Morgan Kuehne scored a goal and Megan Easton had an assist also.

The girls Volleyball team ended their difficult season with a 25-18, 25-14, 25-14 loss to Southwestern. The girls finished the season 1 - 11 in the division and 1 - 12 overall.
We know that the girls and coach Musselman will work very hard in the off season to get Red Lion Volleyball back to its winning ways.

The Cross Country teams both won Division I Championships this year. Congrats to all our cross country runners and great job Coach Stetter!
The Cross Country team then traveled to John Rudy park on Oct. 17th for the YAIAA championships.
The boys were led by Matt Croft who took 4th place and ran a time of 17:04.Caleb Gatchell was 9th with a time of 17:19. Nick McCabe was 13th with a time of 17:34.Nice work guys!
In the Girls race Brooke Amandola took 4th place in the county and ran a time of 20 minutes.Julia Kendrick ran a 20:22 which was good for 7th place.Naomi Scharf ran a personal best time of 20:43 and received a 12th place medal.Great Race Girls!
The teams head to Hershey next Wednesday (Oct. 26th) for the District Three championship. Wish them luck!
Have you ever searched online for ideas for your lesson plans?Have you ever wondered how someone else teaches the same concepts you teach?Have you ever wanted to run your ideas by someone else to get their thoughts or opinions?Do you appreciate the time you are given to collaborate with your peers?These are all great reasons to develop your own Professional/Personal Learning Network (PLN).A PLN is a group of people who are connected who share a similar interest.This group collaborates with each other with the hopes of achieving professional goals.
As a staff, the teachers at Red Lion Area Senior High School comprise their own Professional Learning Network.If a teacher wants to develop a larger PLN, here are a few steps they can take:

I started developing my own PLN this summer.Some of the positive experiences that I have had with my PLN include:
-Sharing and receiving great resources to use at school
-Helping teachers get resources/lesson ideas
-Connecting with administrators and teachers all over the world
-A constant source of Professional Development
I honestly believe that creating your own PLN would benefit you as an educator.What about your students—think of the power of helping your students create their own PLN’s!They could connect with other students and collaborate on school projects, assignments and even study for tests together.They can connect with other students outside of the normal high school setting to share thoughts about what was covered in your class—this could challenge their thinking as well as reinforce what you are teaching.The possibilities are truly endless.
Hopefully, if you start your own PLN or you help your students create PLN’s, you will have some of the same positive experiences that I have had since this summer.As always, if you need some help or encouragement developing your PLN, please let me know.
