Science Department News...

The News is great coming out of the C300 hallway.  Over the last month we have seen lots of good things happening:

-  Mrs. Sarah Warner was highlighted in the York Daily Record for an environmental project she started on site at the high school.  Barshinger creek runs behind the school parallel to Country Club Rd.  The project includes planting trees and making educational related materials to study the creek.  Mrs. Warner has worked with local groups to raise money for the project.  They are looking to raise an additional $10,000 to build a pavillion.  Read more about the project here: http://www.ydr.com/local/ci_21813486/red-lion-alums-students-work-save-barshinger-creek?IADID=Search-www.ydr.com-www.ydr.com

- Mr. Smith went to Washington.  Physics teacher, Mr. Ben Smith participated in a panel discussion and presentation to congressional staffers at the Hart Senate Office adjacent to the Capitol building.  Mr. Smith talked about digital classrooms and how 21st century learning can look.  Read more about the project here:  http://www.iste-community.org/profiles/blogs/ed-tech-classroom-simulations-on-capitol-hill-a-huge-success.

- Glider lands at Red Lion!  Actually the glider was towed in and set up by Mr. Dave MacVeigh, who graciously allowed the Aviation class, Rocket Club and several science classes to see the glider close up.  Dave is the First Assistant District Attorney for York County by profession, but his avocation is sail planes and he gave the students a hands on lesson in aerodynamics and aircraft controls.  Thanks Dave for helping some flying dreams take wing!  RLA-TV covered the story.  Here is a link to view it:  https://rlasd.eduvision.tv/Default.aspx?q=N1VVbOR2eYPBQP2NGB350A%253d%253d.

-  Finally, RLA-TV enjoyed visits from several groups to see the outstanding work they are doing.  A group from Spring Grove as well as the Intermediate Unit visited to watch students at work as they produced the AM Show.  Students from TV Workshop and Journalism work together to produce a daily show as well as cover local news and sporting events.  The student run production covered recent stories on the mock election in school, hurricane Sandy and the glider visit above.  Check out their work at https://rlasd.eduvision.tv/ and read more about the studio at http://www.rlasd.k12.pa.us/teachers/bsmith/tvstudio/TV_Studio/Welcome.html.
